Frequently Asked Questions

What camera equipment do you use?

All photography is carried out using Canon professional digital SLR cameras and lenses.

What lighting equipment and backdrops do you have?
Four Bowens GM500 heads.
Various light modifiers and reflectors.
A selection of neutral heavy weight paper backdrops (2.74m /9ft)
Bowens pulsar radio triggers.
Canon 580 and 430EX flash heads (multi-head setup).

We need some promo shots taking of our band...

Depending on how much time and effort you are willing to expend, a location shoot can produce some quite unique results when compared with a  restricted studio environment.  Of course if you have the budget, the possibilities are limitless.
The price is by the hour with travel taken into  consideration.

Can you attend our gig to do some live shots?

I can photograph your band for the entire set, unless photography restrictions are in place (first 3 only). It's also helpful if the venue has a good lighting rig as it will make all the difference. As above, charges are by the hour, travel expenses, entrance and parking fees are also added if incurred.

You photographed our band at a music festival, can we use your pics on our website or Myspace?

The photos are available for a small fee. However, if you take screen grabs or otherwise download any image, it is an infringement of copyright.

Do you have a studio?

No but I can setup the backdrop and lighting in most indoor locations that have a space large enough to accommodate the equipment.
The flash heads in the image below do not represent a working light setup and are shown for illustrative purposes only.

The photo shows a 7 x 4 metre room with laminate flooring, white walls and ceiling. Ideally the floor colour would be white also! Coloured walls, ceilings or floors can introduce a colour cast as the flash light bounces off them, which can be tricky to totally eliminate from the final shot, especially if the colours are mixed.
The 2.74 metre (9 ft) wide backdrop (excluding backdrop stands) has been extended forward by about 3 to 4 metres. It is important to have a high backdrop to allow shots to be taken from slightly below, otherwise part of the ceiling can be seen if a wide angle lens has to be used due to the lack of space. The preferred lens focal length is 80 -100 mm, which means the photographer will be standing bottom left of the picture or further away, depending on the type of shot.
The setup is suitable for full length shots of small groups (3 adults). Any greater and there is not enough space between people, unless the subject is a family and they are usually shot close together. A half width backdrop can also be used for a single person full length shot if space is tight.
It is not possible to successfully lay the backdrop on to carpet as the paper creases and sinks in, so laminate or a hard floor covering is favoured.

Do you provide a wedding photography service?

Yes but only a limited amount throughout the year and mainly in the North West.

What wedding packages do you offer?

I can photograph your wedding for the entire day and that includes from the bride getting ready, right through to the first dance. Generally speaking, I will only offer either a half or full day of photography, unless you have a specific requirement for the number of hours. A half day would be up to the wedding breakfast.

Do you offer a pre-wedding shoot?

This can be booked as a standalone service or combined with your wedding photography package.

What are your wedding photography prices?

I can discuss this with you either by phone or email as it will vary depending on the location and length of assignment.

What wedding photo albums do you supply?

Photographs will be delivered on a DVD as high resolution image files that are suitable for prints. This is included in the price and gives you the freedom to purchase your own photographic products and prints. I can supply a modern photo book at extra cost but these generally range from 200 to 800 pounds each. Traditional albums with individual photographic prints are not supplied.

Can we view and order our wedding photos online?

A password protected online gallery will be included to enable you to view the photographs but at present, there is no facility to allow you to purchase photographic products from your private gallery. Prints can be ordered online from a supplier such as Photobox but this means your images can be viewed by the general public.

We want an informal photography style but others suggest we have a few formal group shots after the ceremony...?

I don't have a problem with taking a few formal shots but whilst I am engaged with this task, I know I am missing opportunities for some great shots elsewhere.
